2010/2011 Exhibition

Did you know... That one tablespoon of soil has more organisms in it than there are people on Earth?  While we live with, play on and toil in the soil, it still holds great mystery.  The Good Earth: Southern Soil as Inspiration and Provider, examines the role soil (earth, ground, terra firma) plays in the creation of sustenance and artistic expression.  Examined are edible and poisonous wild plants in Middle Tennessee, Appalachain folk pottery traditions, Tennessee, Kentucky and North Carolina stone carvers, Jimmie Lee Sudduth's "sweet mud" paintings, among other great traditions.

The exhibition, as always, is free and open to the public and open any time the Arts Center is for regular business hours.  Community support is vital to the success of our productions and this exhibition could not happen without the support of the Cannon County Historical Society, Creek Bend Pottery, Appalshop, The Southern Folklife Collection and Bertha Chreitzberg.
