John Baird is now in his eighth decade, though you'd take him for a much younger man, not only by his appearance and strength, but also for his sense of humor. John is a notorious practical joker.

John grew up on tenant farms in Rutherford County. As an adult, he has farmed and worked as a salesman and truck driver. As a young man in the FFA, he learned welding and he now creates art from metal scrap. His whimsical sculpture (pictured here) has been shown in galleries in Nashville and Woodbury, Tennessee.

John's artistic nature is also expressed in song. His songs come to him-often in the middle of the night-as poems that he sets to tunes of his own devising. His rich, country voice and free sense of phrasing make him an appealing a cappella singer, an American Bard.
