This Hispanic congregation meets at the Faith Community Church, a small storefront located in a strip of groceries, auto parts stores and insurance agencies along the Columbia Pike in Franklin, Tennessee. The Anglo brothers of Faith Community, a C&MA-affiliated church, lend the building to Gerardo Ruiz and his congregants each Thursday and Sunday evening. Señor Ruiz, a native of Monterrey, Mexico, his wife Ada, and daughters Eunice, Noemi and Damaris, lead a small congregation numbering less than two-dozen most nights.
But the spirit-filled singing of the small group is remarkable. The musical part of a service begins with coros de meditación followed a bit later by coros de avivamiento which are bolstered by claves, handclapping, tambourine and, on occasion, guitar.
