Cannon County Cultural Tourism Complex
This innovative project will be constructed adjacent to the Arts Center of Cannon County on the 3-acre William B. Smith Cultural Park. Located on John Bragg Highway in Woodbury, Cannon County, Tennessee, the complex encompasses five essential, inter-connected components:
1. Museum of Cannon County History
This two-story 2800 square foot facility will feature exhibition space for the collection of the Cannon County Historical Society. As currently envisioned, there will be four major exhibitions rotated on a quarterly basis along with permanent installations. The upper floor will house support space, administrative offices and the offices of the Cannon County Chamber of Commerce. This flexible facility can also provide meeting and conference space for business, nonprofit and tourism groups.
2. Cannon County Welcome Center
The enclosed transition space linking the Museum and the existing Arts Center gallery will be anchored by a tourist information kiosk. Print media featuring Cannon County history, crafts, and culture will be available to visitors along with a continuous-display informational video. A focal highlight of this 300 square foot area is a large stained glass “quilt" panel donated by renowned glass artist Tom Fuhrman.
3. Founders Hall
An open-space of 1200 square feet, this facility will connect to the museum space and the restaurant. It will operate as an adjunct room to accommodate larger groups, receptions, and food service overflow. Because of its proximity to these areas and the Arts Center, it will become an indispensable area for large meetings and conferences.
4.The Art Center Cafe
Wrapped around the new Museum and accessible to the existing Arts Center facilities (restrooms, gift shop, gallery and performance space) is a 1600 square foot restaurant designed to provide a first-class 75-seat dining room and commercial kitchen. Catering services ranging from box lunches for school visitors to banquets for gala occasions and conferences will also be available.
5. Wildflower Walk
The cultural park is bounded by the Stones River which flows approximately 500 feet north of the Arts Center. Nature has provided the blueprint for a tree-lined walk along the edge of the river. This project concentrates on the construction of a trail along the bank enhanced by indigenous wildflowers along the river’s greenway. This complex of new buildings and improvements to the existing Arts Center will help cement the cultural tourism infrastructure of the region and enhance Cannon County’s reputation as a popular destination for tourists interested in the arts, history, local culture, and crafts.
